Valentain's Day

Today is Valentain's Day.  In America, both men and women exchange gifts on Valentain's day.  However, in my country, it is a big day for women to confess their love to men they like.  Another interesting custom on Valentain's day is "giri-choco".  It is obligation Valentain's chocolate for men's co-workers, bosses and friends.  I did not like this.  When I was working in my counrty, I used to buy many chocolate for my co-workers and bosses because it was like part of women's job in the office.  We had to make sure everybody gets one because many men will dissappoint if they didn't receive one.  Even though, they knew it is only giri-choco.  Many women think this custon would dissapear.  Do you have any interesting Valentain's custom in your country?

  1. Giri-Choco!!! I hate it! As a general Japanese woman, I used to buy Giri-Choco for my bosses and colleagues too. It is a stupid custom so I hope it will disappear soon. BTW, I'm not in your group but just came by. See you.

  2. Interesting to hear that in many parts of the world the same holiday is celebrated in differents ways. In Brazil we also celebrate valentine's day exchanging presents and having a romantic moment for either girl and boyfriend we are dating. In contrast, in here in the Unites States valentine's is celebrated as love for everyone girl or boyfriend, friends, family. It is about celebrating love which I thing is a nicer way to celebrate.

  3. In my country we celebrate Valentine day too. However, in my country the celebration is on September. We called that day " El dia del amor y la amistad". We celebrate it in different date but the celebration is very similar, everything around is red, people give chocolates, roses, and that kind of stuff to people they love.
